The Smartest Kids in the World
By: Amanda Ripley
This is a phenomenal book in which Ripley follows 3 American teenagers during a year in which they attend high school in another country. A boy from Gettysburg, PA travels to Poland, a girl from Sallisaw, OK travels to Finland, and a boy from Minnetonka, MN travels to South Korea. This novel then tracks their experiences in school and compares it to their home schools, while along the way delving into what “good teaching” is, what it means to learn, and how children across the world do it.
